The differences between CFRTS and CFRTP?
The matrix resin used in carbon fiber reinforced resin matrix composites is mainly divided into two categories, one is thermosetting resin (TS) and the other is thermoplastic resin (TP).
Thermoplastic resins are composed of linear high molecular weight polymers that dissolve and melt under certain conditions and only undergo physical changes, such as general thermoplastic resins such as polyethylene and nylon. When the heating temperature exceeds the glass transition temperature Tg, it begins to soften and melt, and this characteristic is used for deep processing; high-performance thermoplastic resins such as polyetheretherketone (PEEK) have good heat resistance, but the molding process is difficult and expensive. They are generally used in aerospace and high-end medical.
Thermosetting resins mainly include epoxy resin, polyimide resin (PI), bismaleimide resin (BMI), phenolic resin, and unsaturated polyester. Among them, epoxy resin has many grades and is widely used. It is the main body of the matrix resin currently used in ACM. Epoxy resin is an oligomer with epoxy groups. When combined with a curing agent, it can form a solid with a three-dimensional network structure. It is widely used because it has many advantages.
